If you bought a pair of Apple AirPods Pro earlier in this year, you may have purchased your premium wireless earbuds too soon. The tech company released the same pair, but with a new USB-C charging case in September. Models purchased beforehand came with the older Lightning-port charging case, which works perfectly well, but has outdated technology at its center.
However, Apple just released a standalone MagSafe Charging Case (USB‑C) for AirPods Pro. This is the same charging case that comes with the latest version of the Apple AirPods Pro (second generation), but sold by itself without the earbuds inside. So if you have a pair of second-generation AirPods Pro, you can just get the new USB-C charging case for $99.

Aside from having a USB-C port for charging, the MagSafe Case has Apple’s U1 chip inside for “Precision Finding” when paired with iPhone’s released after 2019 starting with the iPhone 11. This means you can quickly find your AirPods Pro, if they ever go lost or missing — thanks to the “Find My” feature in iOS. The charging case even has a tiny built-in speaker that chirps, so you can find it easier in an apartment or car.
Meanwhile, Apple added a lanyard loop, so you can attach the AirPods Pro to your backpack or purse (lanyard sold separately), while the case is IP54 dust-, sweat- and water-resistance.
Although there is a new USB-C charging port at the bottom of the MagSafe Charging Case for AirPods Pro, the case itself is Qi-certified for wireless charging pads too. It even comes with a nylon-braided USB‑C charge cable to get you started on your journey to have one charging cable type to rule them all.
